VINTAGE ELECTRONICS Chrome MANNING BOWMAN FUNCTIONAL HAIR DRYER 7M1, 1940s Mint:

Vintage hair dryer, manufactured by Manning Bowman, ca. late 1940s. 8\" tall, 5\" wide at the top. 15 volts, 210 watts.

Streamlined, Art Deco styling in silver chrome. Dark brown acrylic handle with white engraved lettering. Cold, Hot, and Off settings.

Manning, Bowman & Company began in Connecticut in 1832, but took shape as Manning Bowman in 1872 when the company opened a manufacturing plant in Meriden. This plant was in operation until 1951. Manning Bowman is known as a premier manufacturer of Art Deco giftware, specializing in electric appliances and chromium plating. The company displayed wares at the 1876 Worlds Fair in Philadelphia and enjoyed increasing success throughout the early 20th century. During WWII the plant ceased manufacturing its wares in order to assist in the war effort, but continued later in the 1940s with its Art Deco offerings. These collectible pieces are known for their quality craftsmanship and Deco glamour.

This functional hair dryer is in very good vintage condition. There are scattered scuffs and nicks consistent with age and use, but no cracks or discoloration. The chrome is in remarkably good condition considering that this dryer was used by its original owners before its storage. It is noticeably heavier than modern handheld hair dryers - it weighs in at almost 3 pounds! The air blows with less intensity, too, so even though it still works, it\'s probably more of a showpiece.
