Vintage French Grand Cru display Glass 2L Advertising Hand-blown? Shabby Chic / Retro
"Grand Cru" (French for "great growth") is a regional wine classification designating a vineyard which is known to have a very favourable reputation for producing wine. It is likely that this glass was produced either to be awarded to the wine producer winning the "Grand Cru" award for his region or to be displayed with an award winning wine in a merchants in France. The style/logo design appears to be 60s/70s but it is always difficult to date something from style of the French viticulture industry as they do not follow fashions!
We believe this glass has been hand blown - it has small flaws and bubbles suggesting this which all add to its charm but no chips/nibbles. It is difficult to show in the pictures but it has a slight green tint which, again suggesting it has been hand blown. The Grand Cru logo is made of metal – possibly pewter. There are a couple of very minor scratches on the glass (not surprising given the age) but you really have to look to find these and they are too small to be picked up in the photos.
The 1L champagne box in the picture is not for sale but is shown for comparison purposes. The glass measures approximately 31cm in height 14cmin diameter (at the widest point). It has a capacity of just over 2.25L/4 pints to the brim.
Possibly the perfect gift for the man or woman who has every thing or a very unusual vase for your table which could look great with dried lavender or daffodils.
