ITEM: You are offerding on a rare antique original fine art halftone photogravure dating to 1905 from the master photographer Alfred Stieglitz. This was printed as plate 10 for \”The Studio – Art in Photography\” the British companion to Camera Work, the important American photo secessionist magazine. As proprietor of the Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession and editor of the photographic journals Camera Notes and Camera Work, Stieglitz was a major force in the promotion and elevation of photography as a fine art in America in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. His own photographs had an equally revolutionary impact on the advancement of the medium. In Stieglitz’s 291 gallery, which he referred to as a “laboratory”, he stated that he was “testing the taste of the public”. His photographs in his series “The New York of Transition” was photographed in a light in which honored the changing landscape of New York. In this series, there’s an underdone of a notion that inAlfred Stieglitz, Night Reflections 1897, every tragedy can contain beauty. This is done through his “misty atmospheres, fuzzy surfaces [and] exotic tableaus”. That even in the most grieving and difficult times, especially in the post-industrial era, there still lies a sense of hope or spirit. These originalhalf tones are becoming exceedingly scarce and collectible, and the quality does not disappoint.Measures 4 1/4" X 5 1/2" on a sheet of dimensions 11 1/2" x 8." 100% guaranteed vintage and original as always from Grapefruit Moon Gallery.
