Vintage Israeli Brutalist Handmade Granite Pc./copper/silver Cylinder Jar W/ Lid:
VINTAGE ISRAELI BRUTALIST HANDMADE GRANITE MOSAIC STONE PIECE STERLING SILVER/COPPERCYLINDER JAR, WITH LIDMid-Century ModernThere's literally not a scratch on this magnificent Israeli piece of Brutalist metalwork and not a single granite stone from the mosaic on top of its lid out of place. It also has its silver maker's label sticker still affixed to the base plate. The torched sterling silver over copper cylinder, is in nearly the same condition it was in when it was produced. Really a stunning and undeniably beautiful piece of Israeli artesania. The torched sterling silver overlay, which makes me suggest that it's a Brutalist piece and not merely a Modernist one, is really a combination of abstracted, gestural Hebrew alphabetic hieroglyphs, quickly 'drawn' with a silversmith's torch. The copper surface is purposefully also heated and torched with fire, to cause it to blacken selectively in place and give it an overall archaic, ancient fired appearance. Most likely done in the early/mid-1950's to early-1960's, this really wonderful work of Modernist Israeli metal craft and Brutalist art, is a thing of absolute, unquestionable and specific beauty. This is what form of Modernist production Israeli artesans and Modernist artists particularly thrived at and whose Brutalist metal constructions can still be viewed at the Tel-Aviv, Israel international airport and in many Israeli public centers and municipal buildings and grounds. Outstanding.
