The Leonard Silver Manufacuring Company was founded in 1969 by Mr. Leonard Florence in Chelsea, Massachusetts to market silverplated holloware. At its beginning it operated out of a rented garage and the entire staff wrote orders, polished silver and carried boxes to be shipped. When the company built an office building across the street the entire staff helped to pour concrete. As the company grew it became more and more interesting for larger firms to obtain it and in 1978 the Leonard Silver Manufacturing Company was bought by Towle Silver with the company headquarters soon to be moved to Boston, Massachusetts, thus becoming part of International Silver. The company\'s assets were again sold in 1990 together with the parent company Towle Manufacturing Corporation to a subsidiary of Syratech Corporation, which already owned International Silver Company and Wallace International Silversmiths, Inc.

Description

This desireable VINTAGE LEONARD SILVERPLATED SHELL SHAPED 14\" SEAFOOD SERVING PLATTER is of great quality and beauty. The silvermarks read \"LEONARD\", \"SILVERPLATED\" and \"HONG KONG\".

It measures approx. W 11 1/2\" x L 14\" x H 2\". The silverplating is 99% as far as I can tell. There are no dings or scratches and it very shiny. The bottom of the plate seems to have a number of dull spots but it does not appear to be silverloss. I did not clean it as it came from a \"good house\" where the previous owner obviously took great pride in keeping her silver shiny, but would highly recommend to give it some cleaning before using it for its intended purpose.
