Vintage Nettie Rosenstein Silk Brocade Bag W/leather Trim, Brass Fastener, Nr For Sale
This is a vintage Nettie Rosenstein silk brocade handbag. It has brass fittings and olive green leather trim. It is fully fitted on the inside, and includes an oval mirror fitted onto its own fabric base. The body of the bag measures 7" in height, 8" in width at the top & 10" in width at the bottom. The depth is 3 7/8" at the side bottom. The handle of the bag measures 10.5" in length, and 3/4" in width. That includes the 7/8" on each side of the handle that is fixed to the top of the handbag with olive leather strips. The handle raises the height of the bag by 3 3/8", making the total height of the piece 10 3/8" to the top of the handle. The underside of the handle is fully lined in olive leather. It is sturdy. The background color of the bag is a beige or light taupe. The brocade is a field of roses and leaves in shades of golds, greens, reds, rusts, and browns. The entire bag is piped in olive green leather cording, including the bottom of the bag, which also has brass "feet" (picture 7). Pictures 8 - 11 show the interior of the bag. The inside of the opening flap is entirely lined in olive leather. The fabric used inside the bag is a beige silk "grosgrain". That's the best way I can describe it. It has the little ridges that grosgrain ribbon has. In picture 8, you see the flap of the interior compartmentalized pocket. It is olive leather and has the signature, "Nettie Rosenstein" stamped in metallic gold. You can also see in the photo that there is an outer front open pocket. In picture 9, you see the pocket with the signature flap opened, to reveal a zippered section which has an open pocket behind it. The mirror can be put in either the front or back pockets. Notice that the zippered section is also trimmed in leather as is the pull on the zipper! Picture 10 shows another open pocket on the opposite side of the bag's interior. It is also trimmed in olive leather. In picture 11, I have tried to show the interior of the bag down to the bottom. There is some light staining in the bottom of the bag. It looks like "age" spots to me, just some light brown stains. This tells me that the bag was used, but is still in wonderful condition.
