Vintage Rare Design Japanes 1950s Hollywood Regency Pierced Porcelain Lamp:
VINTAGE RARE DESIGN JAPANES 1950S HOLLYWOOD REGENCY PIERCED PORCELAIN LAMP
The exact Maker is unknown. The lamp is probably Japanese, though it does look very like those made in Hong Kong under the Wai Ming brand.
Dating it from the hardware, we would say late 1950s.
This is an Interesting piece for lovers of the Enigma of Asian Art.
The figures around the vase are four of the eight “Taoist immortals”. There is also an intriguing Chinese symbol incorporated into the lappet band around the base and also at the corners of the shoulders of the vase.
It looks like 筽 - Which is an obscure Taoist symbol for the unbroken circle of life, or breathing, or the Universe.
Lamp has 3 switches (they marked: Made in Japan): 1st in the socket for main top bulb (the inside metal part of socket is made from copper); 2nd switch at the one part of double wire is also for main lamp bulb & 3rd switch is at the second part of double wire and this switch is for bulb inside of lamp’s body.
