Small but fine detailed, vintage Eastern Orthodox or Eastern Catholic Crucifix pendant with words of a traditional Orthodox \"Protection\" prayer. Gently used, \"mint\" vintage condition; lightly worn out. Sterling silver (the \"925\" hallmark on the necklace loop) \"body\" pectoral crucifix.
The ends of the crossbars are \"budded\", with shapes of three circles, or \"buds\" each. In a Christian context, such a design could symbolically represent the Holy Trinity, similarly to the three-leaved clover, or Shamrock.
The crucifix is two-sided.The obverse bears detailed image of the crucified Savior, Jesus Christ with a halo around His head.The top part of the vertical crossbar bearsthe \"INRI\" nameplate inscribed in Cyrillic letters. In addition, the left and right ends of the horizontal crossbar bearthe Sacred Name of Jesus Christ inscribed as the \"IC XC\" Greek Christogram.In the bottom end of the vertical crossbar, there is the \"NIKA\" (\"VICTORY\") inscription in Church Slavonic symbolizing the ultimate victory of Christ over sin and death.
The reverse bears an inscription in Cyrillic letters meaning \"SAVE and PROTECT\", a traditional Orthodox \"Protection\" prayer inscribed on the reverse of the \"body\" Baptism crosses.
