My research leads me to believe this is a M-69 flak jacket. The M-1969 has 3/4 length, six ply collar with three sections of protective filling. There are 12 sections of ballistic nylon in the front and upper back, two in the lower back, and an additional two down the length of the spine. In doing research, I found the tag numbers are listed on documents from military that were dated prior to 1971. The tag within jacket reads:

DSA-100-4995There is another tag that gives instructions of wearing.Zippered front, drawstring laced sides, 2 pockets(one on each front side), and button close over zipper. The vest has S42 stamped on right breast and on the middle of back. There are some white marks on the back in lower half of jacket, close to waist. The ties on side are in good condition and not frayed. There are no rips or tears and stitching appears to be in good condition.
