$12.47

I am selling all kinds of vintage and antique German Erzgebirge miniature wood pieces, so take a look at my other listings. The description of the piece being sold will be first, followed by a brief history of the region and pieces. The history will be the same in each listing, so feel free to skip it.This listing is for 2 pieces of tiny fence - hand made from wood, measuring 2 1/4\" long and 5/8\" tall, just perfect for the tiny figures and houses. The little fence pieces are guaranteed antique and authentic. They are in excellent condition, with no breaks or damage. At the turn of the last century all the way through to now, the Erzgebirge region of Germany has sold to the world all kinds of tiny miniature wood playsets that included farms, people, houses, animals, trucks and farm implements, and all kinds of interesting things, all hand made from wood. They sold (and still sell) Christmas ornaments, and candy containers. The region had been home for generations to miners, but when the ore ran out, the inhabitants turned to making toys and decorations from wood. After WWI, their sales in the US were often limited to speciality stores and catalogs, as there was quite a bit of anti-German sentiment. One such speciality group was Louis Lange Publishers - who published all kinds of German books, and at the holidays, sold darling little toys and playsets from Germany, as well as German ornaments. Many of the items were sold as playsets, but you could also buy little extra pieces that were sold for a penny (called penny toys). The region ceased making little toys during WWII, and after World War II, the region, like the rest of Germany, was divided between East and West. The little playsets and pieces evolved over the years, with the earlest pieces being the most primitive, and hand carved and painted. By the 1950\'s and later, the pieces were still hand made, but the tools were much more sophisticated, and the pieces look more finished. The newest pieces are quite glossy and very finished. Many of the original families from the ore mining days are still in the region, and have passed the tools and know-how for making all the wonderful things they sell from father to son. It was, and still is, a wonderful cottage industry. JONESANTIQUES! JONESANTIQUES!
