VTG OLD NDEBELE SOUTH AFRICAN FOLK ART FERTILITY DOLL GLASS SEED TRADE BEADED
This sale is for a very nice vintage Ndebele fertility doll beaded with very nice old glass seed / trade beads, most of which look pretty early. Fertility is a major importance to the Ndebele people. A fertility doll is made (in secret) for the bride by the maternal grandmother and is ritually presented to her when she enters her net hut after the wedding ceremony. Custom has it that, after the birth of the third child, the fertility doll must be given away, or destroyed, because it is considered unlucky to keep it any longer. This doll is in excellent condition and beautifully made, the pictures should do the talking. Would make a very unique wedding gift, display with your folk art, etc. This doll is beautifully made.
