Vtg Wholecut Shark Skin 10.5 B Johnston & Murphy Aristocraft Extremely Rare For Sale
I have never seen another pair of these. I can't imagine what it would cost to have a pair made today, or to which maker you would turn.
Wholecut oxfords, each shoe made from a single piece of sharkskin, with only a single seam at the back. The skins are beautifully matched.
There was a time when American shomakers were capable of executing shoes to world-class standards of excellence. While some of the names are still in business, the craft and pride are distant memories.
Johnston & Murphy stood in the first rank, decades ago. Their workshops in Tennesseeproduced a range of fine shoes. At the top of that range were a handfull of models made by hand, one at a time, each unique. The color of these defies easy description. A deep brown with warm highlights.
The original leather soles are firm and strong and have much life ahead of them.
The leather stacked leather heels with original leather toplift with rubber dovetail insert have life left. The topliftswill in time require replacement.
Leather lined quarters. Linen lined vamp.
Marked 10.5 B/AA. I feel they are slightly more generous in width. I would class them as 10.5 C with a narrower heel.
Please compare the following measurements with a similarly-constructed pair that fit you well.
Length measured along outside bottom: 12"
Width measured straight across widest point of sole: 4 3/8"
Heel height: 1"
Shoe trees are not included.
