Very Large 17th C. Italian Or Spanish Cup Hilt Rapier Sword With German Blade:
Very large and early example of the cup-hilt rapier having acomparablylarger cup guard then mostcommonlymet examples, inlaid with a finefiligree padding and having traditional large crossguard finials and wire wrapped grip. Mounted with a fine blade of german manufacture, being of hexagonal section with a central fuller to each side running about one third of the length. One side of the blade featuring a copper inlaid running wolf symbol, typically met on early Solingen blades. Solid and overall intact on this large and scarce 17th century example.overall 45" blade 38 1/2".
