Very Large Antique Chinese Ming Dynasty Glazed Terracotta Statue - 1450 Ad For Sale

A superb, very large,beautiful andnicelyglazed Ming dynastyattendant figure, dating to the 15th Century.

The depiction is one of a tall Ming attendant standing on a tiered plinth. He wears a thick green gown, tied at the waist with a loose belt anda tall,square sidedhat.His hands are folded and covered by hissleevesand a white tasseled towel, upon which rests a presentation box.

Figures such as this were likely intended to accompany a wealthy ancient Chinese into the afterlife, and perhaps alsodemonstratetheir wealth.

Ex collection of Professor Gunther Doeker-Mach, acquired 1980's - 1990's.

Doeker-Mach was a well respected academic and prolific author. He was an authority on human rights as well as international law, teaching at the University of New South Wales. Together with his wife, the eminent activist Alice Tay, they travelled the world acquiring fine art works and antiquities with which they tastefully decorated their home.
