Very Nice 16th To 18th C. Japanese Samurai Wakizashi Sword In Fine Meiji Mounts For Sale
Fabulous example of the Samurai art of weaponry, this Wakizashi short sword is wearing an early blade which is likely to date from between late Koto (16th century) to early Shinto (17th-18th century) and has remained in quite good condition with a distinctive tamper line still visible along the edge and most of the tip area, having few light laminations near the lower blade on one side, few light patina patches, no major flaws, chips or blisters in the steel, the blade has retained perfect edge and should take a very good polish should the new owner desire so. Mounted with a nice large silver habaki, large gold inlaid iron tsuba which is likely to be earlier then meiji era, lovely matching fuchi kashira set of gold inlaid bronze, so are the menukies and a fabulous kazuka handle, all showing minimal wear to gold, the kazuka blade bearing long signature. Sting ray skin over grip is intact and with the lovely white braiding also fully intact. The sword is solid overall and comes with a lovely lacquered wooden scabbard which leaves a few millimeter gap when sheathed. Beautiful Samurai weapon overall in lovely condition for its age. overall 24" blade 16".
