Up for sale is this love looking working antique c1790/1800 steel & brass balance scales / pocket scales by Willm Holt Of 51 Hay Market London.We know very little about this type of item, so we will try and describe it to the best of our ability!! We researched the maker Holt and by using the www.londonancestor.com website:-SOURCE: Kent's Directory for the Year 1794. Cities of London and Westminster, & Borough of Southwark found listed :- Holt James, Scale maker, 51, Haymarket. The lid is fully marked inside with the maker’s information and detail on the weights. The box and its contents are in well used but from what I can make out almost complete condition! (Please see the images for more detail). The scales arms have signs of corrosion but this could easily be cleaned / polished as could the rest of the contents. The main suspension arm is 6 ½ inches in length and the weighing trays are just under 2½ inches in diameter. The wooden box is just under 7 inches by 3½ by 1¼ deep, one side is missing. Please see the photos fore more information and detail on condition.
