A very rare and interesting Navajo cuff, that is signed and hallmarked for the Arts and crafts Guild Navajo silversmith shop. So we know that this cuff was made at this shop. next it is signed LB, most cuffs were not signed. This cuff was done by Luke Begay who was modern day silversmith Howard Begay grandfather, and Howard Begay uncle was Kenneth Begay. Howard was taught silversmithing from hisgrandfather Luke Begay and Howard;s uncle Kenneth Begay..So I suspect Luke Begay was Kenneth Begay father. So we go to the next mark of this cuff which is an R . We know that Ambrose Roanhorse was the co-creator and administrator of the Arts and Crafts Guild from 1930s to 1940s. We also know that Kenneth Begay worked and taught there at the same time period. We also know that some of the very best silversmiths workedat the shop. So the question is what does the hallmark R next to the logo.., who is it.. I suspect maybe Roanhorse. This is what I found out from my research. A very interesting history to a rare Navajo cuff. This cuff is also done in the old Navajo style and appears to be from silver ingot.The cuff is set with a very beautiful light green turquoise with gold veins running throught it. The cuff measurements are 5 1/2 from tip to tip on the inside, plus a gap of 1 1/4, and 1 1/2 wide, and 79 grams. A very rare cuff and has a lot of Navajo history. thank you
