Very Rare, Original Franz Xaver Bergmann, Cold Painted Vienna Bronze, C.1880:
$5200.00

PRICE REDUCED FROM $7800.... This incredible Bronze has been on top of my Great-grandfather\'s Roll Top Desk for over 100 years. Please examine the pictures very carefully to appreciate the exquisite detail of not only the hunting dog, but his prize as well. Looking proud as can be, this truly life-like, stand-alone (no weighted base) bronze weighs 4 pounds, 9 ounces per US Postal Scale. It is approximately 10-1/2 inches long and 6-1/4 inches tall.In spite of all the dust and dirt collected over a century (no attempt has been made to clean since I became the owner in 1970), you can see the extremely fine detail, accurate proportions and very delicate painting. There is one chip of black paint missing (easily repaired) from the end of the dog\'s nose. Other than that chip, this piece is in excellent overall condition for its age. Note also, the delicate, different shades of paint, unlike the more modern heavy cold painting which hides so much detail.Although I have personally searched on line through hundreds of Bronze Animal Figures, I have found NONE to compare to the intricacy and detail of this museum quality (in my opinion) piece. Unlike many bronzes which are repeatedly duplicated, I have found NO DUPLICATES of this unique work. While this piece is unmarked, all of the facts: Stand-alone (no base); Extreme attention to detail of entire work including hairs, genitals, life-like expression, position, proportions and very delicate painting support the contention that this came from the original Franz Xaver Bergmann foundry. It was established in 1860 and in operation until 1900 as the very well known Vienna Bronze Studio Company. A new foundry was established by the son, Franz Xaver Bergman(n) in 1900 and he used many of the designs from the original foundry, but in all my research I have been unable to find a duplicate or anything close to the fine detail of this work. The later works were generally marked with a \"B\" inside an Urn or stamped \"NAMGREB\" (Bergman backwards) for the more exotic works. Many were numbered and may also have the word \"GESCHUTZT\", meaning \"Protected\", similar to our \"Patented\". I also have a small bird for sale under a separate listing which bears these later markings. While I cannot say for certain that this is a \"One of a Kind\", it is extremely RARE and should be the \"Center Piece\" of a serious Vienna Bronze Animal Collection or in a museum. While this is sold \"AS-IS WITH ALL FAULTS\", I believe you will be very pleased.
