Very Special & Beautiful - 1915 Woman Suffrage Blue Bird - Tin Window Hanger For Sale
[Woman
Suffrage Blue Bird Window Hanger]
Die-stamped metal in
blue and gold, black text. Issued by
the Massachusetts Woman Suffrage Association in 1915. 30 x 8 cm.
“Lithographers of America” insignia on the lower tail. "Votes for Women Nov. 2" in black over the gold. "Mass. Woman Suffrage Ass’n. Gertrude H.
Leonard Theresa A. Crowley" in small text down the right edge of the
tail. This item is in excellent
condition for its age, with a few minor scratches only that are barely
visible. Colors are still very vibrant
blue and gold and the metal still shines. There is a very small white round sticker on the back with "3773" in pen - undoubtedly a catalog number.
This item was apparently issued in an attempt to pass women’s
suffrage in New York, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey – all efforts
failed at the time.
Scarce and hard to find, I did find reference to this item in
a few college Woman Suffrage Collections such as the University of Delaware and
Smith College. If found for purchase,
they are often not in very good condition.
This one following is offered for $1200 -
I believe that we have a special item in
outstanding condition, truly exciting and wonderful for a collection. We have started this distinctive item low in
order for it to find its true owner.
From the suffrage collection of Meannette Vermes, 1926-2011, who lived in Feeding
Hills, Massachusetts. Vermes was
President of the Greater Springfield Chapter of the National Organization for
Women and continued to be active throughout her life in women’s issues such as
abortion rights. Awarded the Lifetime
Achievement Award by the Agawam Democratic Town Committee in 2011. A local hero.
