Very And Old Interesting Antique Violin Unlabeled, Grafted Scroll, Ready-to-play:
This very old and interesting antique early 19th century violin
is offered to the highest buyer with .The violin is unlabeled and is tricky for me to identify. It appears to have been made sometime in the early 19th century, perhaps around 1810. It has a single piece lower rib as is often found on Mittenwald violins but that is not a trait exclusive to that school. The violin has full linings and corner blocks in all four corners. The linings are very narrow and finely made. The purfling is exceptional and the photos show it off well. Whatever it's origin, it is certainly a good old violin with loads of character.
This old violin is a well-loved and often repaired survivor. There have been several major restorations to the top, but no cracks in the sound post area, nor any internal sound post patch. There are traces of the original varnish on the top but it has been extensively touched up as significant restoration would warrant. The repairs are of high quality with well shaped internal cleats reinforcing all the crack repairs. The varnish on the back is original and very well preserved, retaining its original gloss and luster. The violin has a later, modern neck and the original grafted scroll. The instrument was expertly set up with new D'Addario Helicore strings. The bridge is new, of proper height, and well carved to fit the violin, and a new sound post has also been properly fitted as well as a new nut. The pegs are old rosewood and are well-adjusted, turn easily and hold well. All other repairs and adjustments have been done and there are no open cracks. All the seams have been checked, re-glued as needed and there is nothing needed at this time. The violin is ready to play.
