Very Nice Seth Thomas Pillar & Scroll Shelf Clock, Wood Works. For Sale
These early Pillar & Scroll American clocks are getting harder and harder to find in any condition, but I am offering one here that has had some restoration to it over the years and is in very reasonable condition for its age. First off, it is a mahogany and veneer case, with a fine furniture finish that I am sure is not original, but very pleasing nevertheless. The case itself stands 31 1/2" high and is 17" wide at the base. It has a Seth Thomas (Terry pattern) 30 hour wood movement that is most likely original to this case. It has been cleaned and has newer cords, and currently runs very well and keeps remarkable time for what it is. I have had it running for me for several months now without any problems. It strikes the hour on a large iron bell. The two weights are period, if not original to this clock. The same goes for the pendulum. The original label has been covered over with plastic to preserve it. The glasses are replacements. The lower glass appears to be professionally reverse painted on newer glass and both glasses are puttied in and the putty painted to look like the factory job. The skirt and feet have had some work done to them and some veneer work as well, not a bad job. Most of these clock cases are very fragile as you can see, and most have suffered some damage to the feet, skirt, and scrolls over the years as they spent some time in an attic or basement, or barn! See the two pictures of the base and feet for a close up of the work done to restore this case. The top picture shows the replacement and repair work done on the scrolls, and also shows the two dust covers over the pullies. The clock looks to have all of its original glue blocks both top and base. The back of the case shows the movement that fits inside the back board, and this clock may have had a tin or thin wood cover over the movement at one time. The last picture shows the dial in its original paint, with minor stretch marks across its surface, again, common with wood dials of this period. Crank key comes with clock. An overall impressive clock and one that is not often seen for sale nowadays. Insurance and package receipt confirmation is included with shipping. Please ask any questions prior to offerding. I have started this sale at $1.00, with a reasonable reserve that is in line with its condition and rarity. Not cheap, but you get a fine quality American clock that is ready to enjoy for many many years to come. FREE SHIPPING to the continental USA ONLY (lower 48 states). No overseas shipments or Canada, sorry. Clock is sold 'as-is', so please make sure you understand and accept every aspect of this clock and the explanation provided here in this narrative. Thank you for looking.
