Victorian 1899 H'm Sterling Silver 6 7/8" Raised Relief Trinket Dish Or Pin Tray:
Superb Victorian Sterling Silver Relief Decorated Two Handle Trinket Dish or Pin Tray dated 1899
This Fabulous Antique Trinket Dish or Pin Tray measures approximately 6 7/8 inches or 174 mm across its length from one handle to the other by 3 7/8 inches or 98 mm across the widest part of its body from side to side and it stands 3/4 of an inch or 19 mm tall to the top of its rim and handles.
The dish is made from sterling silver in a wonderful scrolling oval shape with raised sides under an embossed or raised relief scroll decorated upper rim that has a handle on either end, the central body of the dish or tray has been superbly embossed or raised relief and engrave decorated with a garden or country scene of two young ladies that are being serenaded by a gentleman playing a musical instrument, this scene is surrounded by scrolls and foliage and the dish or tray stands on four ball shaped feet, the trinket dish or pin tray has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below and the side rim has been impressed with a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows,
HM - Anchor - Z - Lion Passant
HM is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of Henry Matthews, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the letter Z is the date letter for 1899 and the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver.
Thecondition is used and near Mint for its age.
The dish or tray hasNo Dents, No Holes, No Splits, No Cracks and No Repairs that I can find, the dish stands straight, the decoration and definition is crisp, the the silver hallmarks are still clearlylegible although as this trinket dish or pin tray is a used antique the makers mark is partially rubbed or worn but still legible and it has some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patinaof age thatis to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss.Personally I think that this antique trinket dish or pin tray can still be used today and that it would make a fabulous addition to any cabinet collection, I also think that it looks absolutely fantastic considering that it's over 110 years old.
This Wonderful Quality Victorian SterlingSilver Relief Decorated Two Handle Trinket Dish or Pin Tray from Birmingham dated 1899 is one of several pieces of antique and collectable silverthat I have also listed.
