The holder has a slight shallow dent or rather slight flattening in one small area, the carrying or suspension chain has suffered plating loss and the blue velvet liner inside the holder is somewhat 'tired' and crusty. It measures just over one inch from base to rim and the ensemble weighs 16.3 grams (complete with thimble).

Hallmarked in the border: J.F (for James Fenton), the Birmingham Assay Office anchor mark, the date letter Old English lower case "l" for 1885 and the lion passant for sterling silver. The thimble is in excellent condition - in round and free of holes, dents, damage and repairs. Height approx. 2.5 cm; internal base diameter approx 1.6 cm; weight 4.4 grams.
