This is an outstanding Eastlake spoon-carved stick-and-ball cherrywood mantle, circa 1881 from an estate near Des Moines, IA. The dimensions are 55¾\" W × 48½\" H × 13\" D, with a ~2½\" overhang on each side (total width is 60\"). The hearth opening is 38¼\" W × 36\" H.

The mantle has been professionally refinished (not by me), but is not without minor cosmetic defects that are typical for its age. There are small dings & dents, and no attempt has been made to fill, remove or otherwise disguise these blemishes. They are a part of the patina. Most notably, the top cherry board has slight (¼\") cupping and short end splits which the restorer attempted to pull down using countersunk wood screws through the board and filled with cherry dowels. There has been minor shrinkage along some joints, particularly pieces of replacement trim at the base that are not an exact color match.
