It features a rare and wonderful hardstone cameo of a woman. Hardstone cameos are much more difficult to carve than shell cameos and they were the work of the most skilled artisans. This one has superb carving - great detail throughout the entire piece - face , hair and wardrobe - it is truly superb!!! These were often done in sardonyx. The cameo is beautifully set in a stunning 14K gold setting. The pendant is set with seed pearls and gold ball form motifs around the edge. The chain is a wonderful Victorian 14K gold link chain. The rare necklace is Victorian and dates to c1860-1890.The pendant comes from a prominent New York city estate. It is classic and elegant and has great impact - with all the elements that you look for in antique jewelry - quality, design, originality, sparkle, drama, just a perfect estate jewel!!!The necklace is in excellent condition. The pendant is 40 mm by 30 mm. The necklace is 16.5 inchres (42 cm) long. The necklace is not hallmarked but tests for 14 K gold.
