Description:

This is a beautiful Victorian compendium of marvels and wonders from the realms of science, art, history and literature, published in an era when people still believed that knowledge was the greatest possession a man or woman could own.

THE CROWN BOOK OF THE BEAUTIFUL, THE WONDERFUL AND THE WISE embraces discoveries and achievements in such diverse fields as natural history, human history, zoology, geography, geology, astronomy, art, engineering, literature, poetry and music. It presents them in a reader-friendly format that may be casually perused or consumed over long evenings of fascinating reading. Never alighting on one topic too long, it is an entertaining sampler of Victorian culture that will ably inform modern audiences as to the preferences and priorities of our Gilded Age ancestors.

THE CROWN BOOK OF THE BEAUTIFUL, THE WONDERFUL AND THE WISE is illustrated with a number of period engravings in the sentimental Victorian style. The section entitled “Home Melodies” also contains full sheet music for thirty popular songs of the era.

If you’re looking for a rare and collectible volume that is as attractive and compelling “within as without,” I highly recommend THE CROWN BOOK OF THE BEAUTIFUL, THE WONDERFUL AND THE WISE. For your convenience, I have prepared a summary of the contents below. Further down the page, you can also see some of the lovely engravings from this rare antique book.

I hope you have a moment to take a look.
