Victorian Solid Silver Cruet Set - George Fox, London, 1878:
An elegant late Victorian solid silver Cruet Set .
The base is 5 1/4" or 14cm long and 4 1/2" or 11.5cm wide.
Comprises two tall lidded receivers and an open salt cellar.
The quatrefoil base is delicately pierced with a raised beaded rim. Three circular holders are similarly decorated. The base stands on four ball feet. Curved and crested handle.
The glass items have identical cut decoration. The Salt has a silver banded rim. The two receivers have domed and hinged lids with flame terminals. Associated solid silver condiment spoon.
All cruet items hallmarked for London, 1878. Maker's marks of George Fox.
This is a high quality antique item by a well regarded maker but it has significant faults. One receiver is missing and its base holder has been removed. Retaining wingnuts to base have been lost. Small split to one of the receiver lids.
A thing of beauty despite its faults.
