Shrewsbury, England.Description:This is a fantastic silver table snuff box with a Classical scene of Poseidonwith his wife Amphitrite in a chariot drawn by horses through the waves- they are accompanied by three mer-people. This is within a decorative border of motifs including, a shield with lion head boss, and a cornucopia. The box has shaped sides- the base is etched, \'H Tart\'. The lid is hinged and the interior is gold washed.This is a high quality piece and is very unusual. There are no marks at all. The lid and base are silver- the sides seem to be silver plated.
Condition:Very good antique condition- there is some slight softening to the relief design on the lid. The base has a fine patina of scratches and pitting- there is also some discolouration; this at first led me to think that the box was silver plated- however, it has been tested and this is not the case..
Measurements:7.4 cm by 5 cm and 1.6 cm in depth.
