Victorian Sterling Silver & Blue Glass Pierce Decorated Mustard Pot by William Davenport dated 1900
This Antique Mustard Pot measures approximately 2 3/8 inches or 59 mm across from the handle to the front of its body by just under 1 3/4 inches or 44 mm across the width or diameter of its lid from side to side and it stands 2 inches or 51 mm tall to the top of its lid.
The mustard pot is made from sterlingsilver in a circular shape with a raised step decorated upper and lower rim either side of a delightful pierce decorated body and it stands on three ball shaped feet, the mustard pot has a scroll shaped raised relief floral and scrolled foliate decorated handle with three section piano hinged stepped slightly domed lid, the mustard pot is complete with its original internal Bristol blue glass liner and it has Not been engraved with a previous owners initial or family monogram all as photographed below, the mustard pot has been impressed on the side of its body with a full set of English sterling silver hallmarks that readas follows,
W D - Anchor - Lion Passant - a
W D is the Birmingham silversmith ormakers mark of William Davenport, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is themark of English 925 standard sterling silver and the letter a is the date letter for 1900.
Thecondition is used and Excellent for its age.
The mustard pot hasNo Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holesand No Repairs that I can find, mustard pot stands straight, the definition and decoration is very crisp, the hingedlid opens and closes with ease, the internal glass liner is a perfect fit with no cracks, the silverhallmarks are all still clearly legible although as themustard pot is a used antique it does have some wear or play in its hinge as the lid moves slightly from side to side and the internal glass liner has a chip to its top edge that does not affect its use, the mustard pot has some extremely minor surface marks and wear fromuse along with the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this antique pot can still be used today for mustard, mint or cranberry sauces and that it wouldmake asuperb addition to any collection, I also think that it has a delightful look about it considering thatit's over 110 years old.
This Delightful Late Victorian SterlingSilver & Blue Glass Pierce Decorated Mustard Pot by William Davenport dated 1900 is one of several pieces of antique and collectable silver thatIhave also listed.
