Victorian Trade Card New Model Grand Parlor Stove Cold Weather, gold Finches?snow For Sale
This is a very pretty card, more like a post card than a trade card. It is probably from the 1880's or a bit after. It is for the New Model Grand Parlor Stove. There is no other information of this product, at least I couldn't find anything on the internet websites or images. It sounds like a name that was well known so I am surprised I couldn't find anything but there is some information and images for parlor stoves. Now this illustration is so appropriate as the parlor stove was used for cooking and also heating homes in wintry weather, and since they were in the parlor, heating the house was possibly its most important function. One source states that it was used for making the guests comfortable when entertaining. I suppose some houses didn't have fireplaces in 1880's or were becoming too much of a hassle for people. The stoves were also considered showpieces with their often intricate designs, as tools, but also as works of art. Google some images and I can see why some people with old houses would like to still purchase one. There is nothing on the back of this averages sized card and it appears to be in good condition. Please ask if wondering about something.
