For your consideration today we’re offering this unique VICTORIAN RIBBON & CHARMWATCH FOB.
After a bit of research, we feel confident attributing this piece to the World\'sColumbian Exposition held here in Chicago in 1893.
This piece is marked “With Compliments, Eugene Arnstein, Chicago.” History states that Arnstein was a featured businessman at the Expo and inventor of the product, “Arnstein’s Gold Leaf Substitute.” Since this piece was acquired from an estate in the Windy City, the provenance seems likely.
(Perhaps Arnstein’s Gold Leaf Substitute is what gives this fob its antique gold color...?)
This fob comes to you in very good, pre-owned condition. Aside from some slight fraying of the black grosgrain ribbon, it’s good to go!
The main focus of the piece is gold/brass coins that are linked together. From top to bottom they feature:

Roaring tiger
Dog (head in profile)
Lucky horseshoe
Horse (head in profile)

On the back of the larges coin (the bottom horse head) it is incised: With Compliments, Eugene Arnstein, Chicago
This is a great piece for any Chicago history buff, and it would look AMAZING hanging from an antique chain as a necklace...The wonderful old gold patina really pops against the black fabric of the ribbon. Of course, it displays just as well in a glass case.
