View Book & Insert/john Greenleaf Whittier House/quaker Church/amesbury Ma/c1918:
View book (just under 6” by 8 ¼”) and insert sheet (6” by 9”) for the John G. Whittier House in Amesbury, Massachusetts, circa 1918. Neither the booklet nor the insert are dated but both mention that the property was purchased by the Whittier Home Association in 1918. The view book includes two illustrations of the exterior of the house and five more of interior rooms furnished with period antiques. There are also two illustrations showing the poet and author himself, as well as the old kitchen in the backyard and the nearby Friends’ Meeting House. The text describes Whittier’s literary career and residence at the house and offers details about the interior of the house and related matters. There is some mention of Amesbury as well. The insert sheet shows the same exterior view of the house and is a condensed version of the view book text. The insert was folded in the view book and shows no damage. The view book is in good condition with light wear and soiling. Note the wear on the cover and the pieces missing from three of the corners. Nice Amesbury MA related item!
