Split Cane Rod.
This lovely "Hardy's" "Palakona The Perfection" rod is in "as found" condition and has not been restored or repaired by us.
The rod measures 8 foot 10 inches, (including the handle) in overall length. The fittings and reel seat to the butt section are in alloy. The butt and top ring are agate lined. It has a locking joint, which is a good snug fit and has retained much of its' original finish. All of the rings are present and well attached and the burgundy whipping is in good order. I can't find any crazing or cracking to the varnish and the rod has a slight "set" or kink to right to the top section.
The alloy reel ring and seat are impressed with the Royal Apointment crests and "Made by Hardy's England", it also has the Serial number "H28484" (1960) . Just above the handle the rod has "Regd. Trademark Palakona", "The Perfection" handwritten in Indian ink. The rod has its' makers cloth bag. This is a nice example and has a lovely feel when held, well balanced, and sturdy and it has taken on a super depth of colour over the years of use. It is so evocative of times and fishermen past.
