Mitre Hardy
"The Coachman"
3 Piece
Split Cane Rod.
This "Mitre-Hardy" "The Coachman" rod is in "as found" condition and has not been restored or repaired by us.
The rod measures 8 foot 6 inches, (including the handle ) in overall length. The rod appears to be straight, but unfortunately, the top section appears to have been shortened at some point and the top ring re-attached with the ferrule also re whipped. The top ferrule to the middle section and two further rings to the middle and bottom sections have also been re-whipped.
The reel fittings are in alloy. The butt and top ring are agate lined. The suction joints are a good snug fit and has retained much of its' original finish. All of the rings are present and well attached, however, some do show signs of surface rust. What remains of the original whipping is in good order, however, there is some discolouration to the whipping around the rings and joint. There are patches of varnish loss to the bottom and middle sections, please see the photographs.
Just above the handle the rod has "The Coachman Trout Fly Rod, Made by Mitre-Hardy, England", the logo and "#5".
The rod has its' makers cloth bag, this is little faded.
