Vintage / Old Pawn Hopi Sterling Overlay Grizzly Bear Paw Belt Buckle / Ex Cond For Sale
There's no artisan hallmark on this outstanding Hopi overlay bear paw buckle—it is stamped sterling. It has recently been polished but there is patina in the recesses. The cut outs are clean and exacting, with the patterns on the sides being the same design (flipped) yet varying in detail considerably. The pad of the bear paw is very detailed showing some real expertise. The texturing in the recesses is all chisel chased and beautifully done. Great silversmithing all around and the buckle is thick, weighing 54 grams, it's slightly domed and the edges are worn smooth from use. It measures 2 7/8 by 1 15/16”, is in excellent condition, superbly handcrafted and made to last a lifetime.
