Vintage 1868 W. Johnson Wooden Level Tool:
For sale, a wooden level made by W. Johnson, Newark, N.J., USA. It bears the patent date: January 21, 1868. It measures: 12" long X 3-3/16" tall X 1-5/16" thick. It also has the serial (or model) number 124. Weight: 1 lb, 10.5 oz. It has two glass tubes with a bubble to measure horizontally & vertically. The tubes are incased in brass fittings that have screws & springs that give the ability of calibration. Each corner is brass with the original screws. If you run your fingernail along the bottom of the level, where the wood meets the brass, you cannot feel the seam. I think the wood is oak (doing some research to confirm that). Will be packed safely and securely. . Please see my other sales for more collectibles. On Jul-12-13 at 00:09:18 PDT, seller added the following information:
I have been told by two sources that the wood is mahogany.
