Vintage 1920's Sargent Bronze And Cast Iron Entry Lock Thumb Set W/ 2 Cylinders :
This Sargent Entry Lock is very heavy bronze/brass with a hefty cast iron mortise lock. It is in a colonial/ arts and crafts style. I believe it to be the 1925 hardware original to the house. It was replaced from my front door in 2001 when it was in working condition. The exterior hardware is complete except for screws/bolts for attachment. The exterior handle and thumb latch is 11 inches plus the cylinder placement above giving it an impressive 16 inch vertical spread or so. It remains as originally purposed outside--key lock and thumb latch without a door knob. The lock functions well and is complete except for two long set screws that tighten from two holes in the jam plate onto the cylinders--these look to have gone missing years ago but have standard fine thread for replacement bolts which are available from a hardware store. The strike plate for the door surround is missing. The interior knob rosettes or faceplate have are not included. This set was originally used with an interior turn key latchfor the deadbolt plusan interior key and interior door knob. The cast iron frame is made to acomodate a small bore turn key latch and key (you can use only the turn key if you desire) plus a door knob. I believe either the interior key, small bore thumb or both could be used inside. Standard vintage or reproduction interior hardware that matches the rest of your interior hardware would work with this piece. (I have separately listed an interior plate and knob or maybe be able to provide you another listing for what you need as well.)
This set is one of many pieces of vintage hardware I am clearing out. Many of these items have been salvaged from my 1925 home and in storage for twenty years. In many cases I have fully or partially refurbished these items and either used them or kept them for surplus until now. Several of these items are from estate sales or sale box lots. I did my best to depict condition and all pieces have loss of finish, scratches etc. Please view all pictures and ask any questions before offerding.
