Vintage 1930 Peter Rabbit Coloring Book No 202 Saalfield Fern Bisel Peat:
Peter Rabbit Coloring Book, 1930
This vintage coloring book is completely adorable and utterly charming. Peter Rabbit is on the cover, shown in two watering cans which look like mirror images with spouts a bit truncated. These images just pop against the black background, giving the book an antique and somehow modern look at the same time. The inside pages are chock full of wonderful illustrations, some shown with colored examples for the child to repeat. Many of the images have been colored in with crayons, by children with varying degrees of technical ability, and it is this naïve artwork which makes the book come alive with personality. At least one of the illustrations was colored in with watercolor paint.
The coloring book is softback, was published by Saalfield Publishing Co. of Akron, Ohio and New York in 1930, and the artwork is by Fern Bisel Peat. The book is No. 202 of a series.
The vintage wear includes yellowed interior pages, some creasing here and there, etc. A small tear/puncture on front cover near center which indents the first several pages of book, and some noticeable creasing at lower right edge. Back cover has some scuff marks and noticeable creasing as well. A few pages inside show more noticeable creasing, like the very last page. Booklet is soundly bound, all pages appear to be present, and this is a sturdy booklet.
