This was the start of the Mickey Mouse Watch phenomenon....
While it was marketed for kids (generations of children have learned to tell the time with them). But what made Mickey Mouse Watches a pop culture phenomenon was the adult stars that wore them.
Grace Kelly, Sammy Davis Jr, John Lennon, Andy Warhol, Lauren Hutton, and television talk show host Johnny Carson all sported Mickey Mouse watches.
Astronaut Wally Schirra brought one aboard the Apollo 7 spacecraft that orbited the Earth in 1968. Astronaut Gene Cernan took his Mickey to the moon on Apollo 10 in 1969.
More recently they have appeared on screen with Tom Hanks wearing one in the movies Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code. The character Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) wears a Mickey Mouse watch which was a present from his parents.
