Vintage 1939 Seth Thomas Model 60 Mantle Cabinet Clock With Westminster Chimes:
Up for sale is vintage Seth Thomas Model 60 8-Day Cabinet/Mantle clock with Westminster chimes. The clock uses the #124 pendulum movement and key is included. Seth Thomas introduced this model in 1939, and we would rate the condition of this original, unrestored clock as very good, allowing for normal ageing of the finish. It measures 21 3/8” long, 9 5/8” high and 6 ½” deep. The face is 5 ¾” in diameter and the clock was manufactured in Thomaston, Connecticut.
The clock cabinet is mahogany (dark brown finish), with birds eye maple walnut inserts below the dial of the clock. The finish shows some “alligatoring” upon close inspection, but looks fine from a normal viewing distance; the pictures show this.
We have tested the clock for over three weeks to verify all is working. The four-rod Westminster chimes sound every quarter hour, followed by an hour count on a single rod at the beginning of a new hour. The chimes sound nice, and the clock keeps accurate time.
The clock has a number of holes on the face. The wind hole near #4 is for the chime functions; the hole near #6 handles the time function and the wind hole near #8 handles the hour strike function. The small end of the key is used to adjust the time regulation slow/fast is via the smaller hole above numeral 12, and the chimes can be silenced by turning the shaft at the small hole between numerals 4 and 5. The original instruction sheet is attached to the back door of the clock.
Please look at the pictures and ask questions prior to offerding; your satisfaction is our highest concern. The clock weighs 8 pounds, and will be carefully boxed to ensure that it reaches you in the condition pictured. The pendulum will be removed and the chimes/hammers will be protected. Shipping is to USA addresses only via USPS Parcel Select or UPS Ground (your choice), including full insurance.
