A LITTLE HISTORY

These NOMA bubble lights consist of a glass tube filled with a chemical called methylene chloride and a plastic base that holds a light bulb in close contact with the tube. The earliest NOMA bubble lights had glass slugs inside the tubes, to help activate and spread out the bubbles.The chemical had a low boiling point and would bubble from the heat of your hand or in the sunlight.The colored liquid in the tube could becometinted.Purple was the rarest color due to its short 3 years of production. Sometimes the purple fluid was so dark thatthe bubbling action did not show very well. Some blue colors also were this way. It was discovered that the slugs were not really needed, and after 1949 they were no longer used.

This is a Pre 1949 set of9 C-6 NOMA Biscuit Bubble Lights. These all have the glass slugs inside the tube. One rare purple light is included with the set. This set is marked Cat. No. 509 on the end of the box. The set operates in series, which means when one bulb burns out or becomes loose, they all go out. If you use a dimmer device with this set, you can preserve the bulbs a lot longer.

Note: These are all original bubble lights -no reproductions. The bases and tubes are original. There is no indication that any bulbs were replaced.

These bubble lights appear to be in Very Good Condition. They all work and bubble. Thepurple bubble light is included. There is no evidence of any repairs. There is no melting or chips. The one on the right with the blue tube has some light showing through an opening where the seam is not sealed betweenthe 2 halves. Thesockets and plug are black. Theplug has NOMA embossed on it, and there is a place on itto plug in another string of lights. There is a protective cover on the plug. The "UL" tag is missing.The soft flexible cord isgreen.Metal clips are affixed to the sockets to help hold the bubble lights straight on the tree branches.There is some oxidation on the clips.

The box is in Fair Condition. It is a display type box which requires following the directions on the bottom for displaying. It appears that this was never done. The lid has a piece missing above the "O" in NOMA. There is a tear at the top near the middle and another tear on the flap that tucks in at the front. There is a stain on the left side of the lid above "UB" in BUBBLE. There are stains on the underside of the lid. There is an old price sticker on the left edge.See the pictures. There is tape residue on the bottom.No tape was used to repair the box.There is some soiling, surface, edge and corner wear.The underside of the lid also shows soiling. The insert isnice. The Box is 14" x 7-1/2" x 1-5/8".

Shipping + Handling in the U.S.A. will range from $6.30 to $10.29(on the west coast). PRIORITY MAIL will also be an option from $6.30 to $11.75(on the west coast).
