Vintage 1950s Charm Circus 1 Cent Gum & Candy Vending Machine With Lock & Key:
Here's an unusual countertop vending machine from the 1950s. It's the Charm Circus vending machine made by L.M. Becker Co. This machine really stands out from other vending machines because it's designed to look like a clown head! The clown has a red nose, pointed hat, and even teeth! And it's made entirely of plastic, which is really unusual for a vending machine designed for commercial use. Something else that's unusual about this machine is that it can vend both bubble gum and toys -- nearly every other similar vending machine was designed to vend either gum or toys. This vending machine is more than 60 years old -- and it looks great for its age. The only crack on the machine is in the clown's right cheek, just below his eye (see Photo #7). Also, the piece of clear plastic that holds the top half of the clown's head to the base has a tiny crack by the screw that holds it in place. The machine works perfectly, and the original instruction card is still attached to the bottom of the machine (see Photos #9 and #10). The original lock and key on the top of the machine work just fine. The base is about 9" in diameter, and there are four small screw holes in the base so this machine could be attached to a vending machine stand or have screw-on suction cups attached if the machine were placed on a countertop. Because of the fragile nature of plastic (as compared to the durability of steel), most of these Charm Circus machines were broken and have been disposed of many years ago. This machine doesn't include any capsules, gum, or prizes. The photos are considered part of the description for this item.
