Vintage 1950s Uranium Submerged murano Sommerso Vase by Galliano Ferro
A vintage Submerged Sommerso Futuristic Glass Vase with uranium content. Submerged with green & blue within the clear glass. The glass glows a pale green when placed under ultra violet light as shown in the pictures. A very fashionable piece of art glass designed by Galliano ferro and originally made on the Island of Murano.
Sommerso is a term for a technique used to make coloured glass in all shapes and forms. The basic principle of sommerso involves submerging different colors beneath clear glass to form coloured glass creations that can include vases, sculptures and beads. Sommerso glass is known for its shine, color and dramatic effect.
The sommerso technique is unique. It features a solid colour of molten glass fused with a second layer of clear glass that serves to preserve the color of the first layer without allowing it to fade into the second layer. Coloured layers of glass are sealed within layers of clear glass. Clear layers are blended together to create form and shape without degrading any of the colours contained in the design. Generally, the technique is achieved by dipping a solid glass object into a layer of molten glass.

Condition: The condition of the vase is good and dispalys very well. The usual nibbling around the rim area and thin slither of glass. refer to pictures. Glass designs of this age will always have some surface areas marks or scratches as a result of usage over the years but not necessarily damage. Very nice looking vase.
