This is a Rike's Semi-Truck made in 1954-1955 by the Tonka Toy Company. This truck is complete and infactory original condition. The truck decals on the doors are oval-shaped and say "Rike's." Both of these decals are in excellentcondition. The fifth wheel, where thediesel fueltanks are, show your typical fifth wheel scratches from the semi-trailer (see photos). Otherwise the cab would be in excellent to near mint condition. The truck has never been waxed, cleaned or polished and still retains that old "Tonka sheen." At the very top front peak (highest point)of the semi-trailer, there is a small paint rub due to being taken in and out of the box over the years. The Rike's decal on the right side of the trailer has a tiny scratch at the bottom of the "R." The rest of the decals are in excellent condition. There are no dents on the sheet metal of the trailer. The doors open and close freely. On the bottom left hand corner of the trailer, there is a paint chip (see photo). The trailer also has that old "Tonka sheen" and the trailer has never been waxed, cleaned or polished. For overall condition, I would easily give this a 9.8 or near mint condition. Look at the photos carefully and email if you have any questions.
This is a VERY RARE truck in this condition WITH ORIGINAL BOX. The boxreads "Tonka Toys by Mound Metalcraft Inc., Mound, Minnesota" on all four sides of the box. One end of the box has never been opened and has on it "No. 400-5 Allied Furniture Van Tonka Toys" and the story I've been told is that when Tonka made these private label trucks for different companies, they used these Allied Van Semi-Truck boxes for these private label trucks, and Tonka did not make new boxes for all the private label toys they were making back in the 1950s. Even though this box does not say "Rike's" on the box, it is the correct box for this truck. On the other end of the box, it is missing one top flap and one side flap. The box shows normal wear for being over 55 years old. In the condition that this is in, you will look a long time in order to upgrade. I didn't want to clean or wax the truck, but it would sparkle if it was cleaned and waxed. I'll let the new owner decide what to do about that. It has very nice paint on it, but the color in the photos shows camera glare and haze, but the paint is very nice on this toy.
Email me if you have questions. I have been in the antique toy business since 1976. I have excellent response. (Please note: There is camera glare on the photos.)
Ohio residents will pay sales tax. Shipping and Insurance will be $25.00 via Priority Mail.If it costs less than $25.00, we will refund the difference in the box with the toy.
