Vintage 1966 Rod & Custom Gp Recreation:
You are offerding on oneVintage 1966 Rod & Custom GP Racer
This is a recreation of a Pro GP race car from the sixth and final race of the 1966 Rod & Custom Magazine series. All the commercial parts are vintage new old stock items, not reproductions.
The custom scratch built chassis and running gear were inspired by the Captain of Team Russkit Mike Morrissey and the cars he built for the race. The vintage Lancer 3 Liter Ferrari body's livery is in a more "scale" fashion than Mike's car as if the car were going to be entered in the race's concours event.
The interior and beautiful chrome mirrors are Lancer pieces. The driver's head is Cox. The roll bar is formed aluminum as are the 12 velocity stacks which are hand flared.
The motor is a strong runner and based on the Russkit 23 16D. The can is modified to accept the big French-Tradeship magnets The "blind can bearing" has been replaced with an "open" style endbell bearing. The armature is a period rewind with red wire and is epoxied and balanced. Heavy duty brushes and springs complete the motor.
The gears are the rare Weldun aluminum crown gear with a Tradeship pinion, the wheels, wheel inserts and tires are Russkit's (the original black rubber is hard), the guide is a Cox with quick change braid and the lead wires are Cox SuperFlex.
The car is in perfect condition except for a 1/8" crack in the nose as can be seen in the picture. The car runs and displays beautifully.
