PLEASE READ: The jewelry I am listing is from an extensive collection purchased by my late sweetie (and/or her mom) on vacation trips to New Mexico (and the Southwest in general) during the \'60s and \'70s. This bracelet was probably purchased circa 1974.
PLEASE NOTE: THESE AREALLAUTHENTIC NATIVE AMERICAN PIECES PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM THE ARTISTS, EITHER IN THE SQUARE AT SANTA FE, OR AT THE INDIVIDUAL PUEBLOS. THESE ARE GENUINE NATIVE AMERICAN WORKS OF ART IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WHICH HAVE REMAINED IN THE FAMILY EVER SINCE THEY WERE PURCHASED!
These pieces have spent the majority of their lives safely stored in plastic bags with pieces of chalk to deter tarnishing. My late mom-in-law learned that trick long ago and instilled it in us, thus these pieces all look essentially \"new\". Very few have been \"cleaned\"...most are just CLEAN from having been sealed away from oxidation throughout these last 40+ particular listing is for one of the cuff bracelets from our collection. We were fairly certain that this one was purchased in 1974, as this is one my sweetie\'s mom bought, and we know the parents made a big trip out west in the Winnebago that year.
In researching this bracelet, I found that William Singer was the brother of another famous Navajo silversmith, Tommy Singer. I also read that William began using the chip inlay technique in 1972, so if this were purchased on that 1974 trip, this would be one of the pieces he made two years into his use of the technique.
This is a very bold, wide cuff that is about 1 1/2\" wide at the middle, tapering to 1\" wide at the ends. The craftsmanship is first-rate. Beautiful cut-work surrounds the chip inlay in an intricate design that evokes both a diamond-pattern Navajo rug, and arrowheads. The hammering around the entire perimeter that secures the two layers of silver is incredibly precise. The pattern is complex and intriguing...the eye just wants to look at it and take it in, going from the angular forms to the curved lines at the very center and at each end, which are reminiscent of water flowing.
The piece is signed. Stamped on the back is the hallmark for William Singer: three characters stamped, an \"S\" and a \"D\" next to each other at an angle, and then a large \"^\" caret beneath them. Please see the photos...I was able to capture the hallmark in the light just right so that it stands out.
This is one that neither of us ever wore. It is far too small for my wrists, and my sweetie never wore it either...it stayed tucked away with the rest of the collection.
This piece is wonderfully crafted, and would be a wonderful gift for someone who loves Native American jewelry.
It is time for this gorgeous bracelet to see the light of day and be worn and treasured by someone new.
Truly an awesome piece from our collection. If it speaks to you, please give it a new \'forever home\'...it needs to be worn, seen and NOTE ABOUT COMBINED SHIPPING:Yes, I will be more than happy to combine shipping, if you are buying more than one item.
