This is a very nice vintage 30s 40s black heavy wool overcoat. The quality of the wool is fantastic, as you would expect. It should be very warm and will last forever. There is a tag that indicates it is from Trondheim which google tells me is in Norway. It says Isaksen. I would assume this is a tailor from the town. Not sure. See tag. The quality is fantastic as you would expect from the era. The shoulder is heavily padded giving a real 30s 40s silhouette. It has a belt. There is a small hook on one end. I would assume this hooed to a faux buckle. You can replace it or tie it. It is long enough to tie for a sporty look.
Coat is lined with a nice satin type fabric. Wool is a heavy weight, slightly rough, almost like a peacoat fabric, but not as smooth. About as heavy though. 6 buttons. Two breast pockets inside. Two patch pockets on outside lower.
Condition is great for its age with no rips, stains, or funky smells. A very slight bit of wear around the edges. the fuzz is worn off just slightly. Not much at all. You would have to look close to even notice. No buttons on cuff. Thread indicates that it might have had one on each cuff. All 6 buttons present on front. In pocket is a fabric belt loop that probably went on belt next to buckle. As I mentioned, buckle is missing. There is a metal hook on one end. Overall, very solid and will last forever. Obviously it is a 60-70 year old used coat, so it is not perfect, but pretty close to it.
Size is not marked. Should be a pretty standard size 40-42. But please see measurements to be sure.
Measurements across chest are 23 inches. Shoulders are 19-20 inches across. (The shoulder pads are so thick that they stick out a bit. Seam is 19 inches, but shoulders make the shoulder distance about 20) Sleeves are 26 outside and 17 1/2 inside seam. Sleeves have 1 1/4 inches to let down. Length from top of neck in the back to bottom of the back is 48 inches. Based on chest measurement of 23, I would call this a size 39 40 41 42 depending on what you wear under it.
Belted double breasted coats like this are quite rare these days. Don\'t miss out.
