Vintage '67 Hoboken Guild D-40 Acoustic: Nice Condition, Tone And Playability For Sale
You're looking ata beautiful vintage Guild D-40 dreadnought, serial # AJ 1279, well-made in Hoboken NJ in 1967. Like the best Hoboken guitars, this dreadnoughtis light and responsive, with a strong, even voice that is both woody and bright. It is well balanced from bass to treble, and flatpicks and fingerpicks with ease. Cosmetically, there are a couple spots of chipped lacquer and a few scattered nicks, but NO cracks. Structurally, it is tight all around, with a very good neck angle and low action. It is set up with new D'Addarion phosphor bronze light gauge. The nicely ambered Sitka top helps produce a tone that is mellowed, but still has plenty of sparkle and volume, reminding us why this model was called the "Bluegrass Jubilee." Back, sides and neck are solid big leaf mahogany, while the fingerboard and bridge are Brazilian rosewood. The finish is completely original. The only up-dated features are a new set of Waverly-style 17:1 open back tuners (way better than the originals) and a new set of buffalo bone bridge pins. The frets are in good shape and the board shows only slight wear in the first position. There is an old metal strap pin installed in the heel. The case is a very protective Freistat, great fit and solid, but with a couple breaks in the exterior covering and lacking a cover for the compartment.
The guitar's nut measures 1 11/16", the scale is 25 3/8", the width at the lower bout is 15 3/4" and the depth at the butt is 4 13/16".
The guitar will ship, well packed and insured, for $60 to the states and $110 to selected countries abroad. International buyers are responsible for any duties, as well asthe difference between the maximum insurance to your country(usually $650, but much less to the UK since ParcelForce) and the actual sale price of the guitar. Sales are final, so check the pix and ask questions if you have any. Payment is due within 48 hours of the sale's close.
Good luck and happy offerding. There aren't many nice old Hoboken Guilds still in circulation, so buy this one while you have a chance!
