CONRAD VINTAGE 70'S MODEL 40080 MADE IN JAPAN BY K KASUGA - RARE - WITH ORIGINAL CASE
This CONRAD Vintage Hollow Body 6 string electric guitar, Model 40080, Made In Japan in the 1970's By KASUGA Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co. LTD is a RARE find these days. This beauty is similar to the Gibson Barny Kessel / Trini Lopez model and is a 1 owner guitar as you can tell by the photos it spent a majority of it's life in the case under the bed.
This Conrad guitar is in Excellent condition and is a fine vintage collector/player guitar It's as close to perfect as you can come being that this is a real time capsule guitar form the early 70's.
It seems to have been well taken care of. No smoke or cellar dweller smells. It appears to be all original accept for the strings. No belt buckle rash on the back (in fact, not even a scratch). The neck is straight as an arrow and plays like butter. Low action on the Rosewood fret-board with nickel silver frets in excellent shape as you can see from the pictures. There is some minor fingerboard wear in the lower regester but that's about it.
The 3 tone burst is simply beautiful on this fine guitar. It's a double cutaway hollow body archtop with a Bigsby style tremolo spring bar.
Seven perfectly positioned fret-board inlays. Hardwood neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Pickups have individual string adjustment post that are in mint condition. 3 way pickup selector switch with a 2 volume controls and 2 tone controls. Smooth action combination bridge and enclosed tuner heads.
The top and back are 3 ply hardwood. The bindings are in excellent condition. It doesn't look like this vintage guitar has seen much play at all. No shrunken frets or over extended frets. They're as smooth as can be. I've played a lot of guitars in my life, and this one sounds powerful and sweet. A real pleasure to play. No buzzing on any string at any fret location. This baby is a vintage guitar collectors dream come true.
Most MIJ guitar collectors consider Kusuga built guitars to be the best built of this time period. Conrad was a chain of hardware stores in Chicago. A brand of the David Wexlar Company.
Kasuga partnered with Tokai to make the Conrad guitars for export to the USA in the early to mid 1970's. They were also known for being an OEM manufacturer for C.F. Martin, B.C. Rich and others. Guitars built by Kasuga are considered to be the best MIJ (Made in Japan) guitars available.
