All of the art work and collectibles being sold by Adams-Byrd Fine Art & Antiques have been collected and selected one at a time by the proprietor, an art historian with many years of training and experience in university art history departments, museums, galleries, and historic sites both in the U.S. and abroad. In most cases the pieces offered for sale on are from the business inventory (the business has been based in the Washington, D.C. area for many years). Our inventory is extremely large, so the majority of the pieces we are putting on have never been displayed in any of our retail locations. Occasionally, we are also selling pieces from our personal collection. The art and collectibles that we are offering to buyers are special and unique pieces that have been carefully “curated” by us.
This vintage hand carved wood figurine (with hand painting) is from
the legendary ANRI in the south Tyrol region of northern Italy. This is the perfect collector’s item
for an eye doctor who prefers original works of art.
The carved figure, a bearded doctor holding an eye chart, is on a wood
base. There is a break across the
doctor’s right foot --- and the bottom of his left foot can be lifted up a bit
from the base. It was like this
when we acquired it and we have displayed it AS IS. The new owner might want to permanently fix it with
some wood glue.
Several different woods have been used. Note that the stripes of the pants legs are actually from
the grain of the wood used for that part of the figure!
This vintage ANRI wood carving is more detailed and interesting than
some of the more recent carvings of doctors. Note the details of the expressive face (both the carving
and the hand painted detail) and also the detail of the expressive hands.
Total height 7 1/8”
Figure 6 1/8”
We presume that a past owner taped the typed label on the front of the
base – OPHTHALMOLOGIST. The
maker’s paper label on the base reads ---
ANRI ITALY 52402 / 7 Oculist Oculista Augenarzt.
This vintage original European wood carving is in good used
condition. There are minor marks /
rubs / scratches from wear and handling – and there is the broken / cracked
foot mentioned above.
THIS IS AN ORIGINAL WOOD CARVING / SCULPTURE (i.e. it is NOT a cast
made from a carving) !!!
